The Journey
Like every self-respecting Racing Crew member, Elisa has one unstable and socially dangerous trait: she lives in Alghero. Sardinia. An island. The plan: ride to the port, ferry to Livorno, ride to Cremona, do the track day, then do the whole thing in reverse. As if she were a commuter from the Milan suburbs - except instead of a regional train, there are ferries.
Waiting for her is Paolo, a colleague making his first track day too, who arrived from Trento wisely choosing not to comment on Elisa's travel itinerary. A smart man.
The Law in the Paddock
They are the first two carabinieri in Racing Crew history. The news was received by the paddock with the group's trademark composure: three people immediately started looking for db killers out of muscle memory, Davide began tearfully swearing that he had absolutely legally purchased his e-scooter, and someone claims to have seen Fabio trembling in the bathroom.
On Track
On track she is fluid and improves lap by lap. What she hadn't factored in was 35°C, a riding suit that traps heat like an Istanbul hammam, and a Tuono with about as much mercy as a tax collector. She comes back to the pits looking like a Woodstock survivor, but with a smile that tells us we'll be seeing her again soon.
The Coach
Towards the end of the day, Riccardo - who had clearly sniffed out an opportunity to earn a Get Out of Jail Free card - offers to do a few laps with Elisa and Paolo to show them the racing lines. We can't say whether Elisa came out faster or more confused, but she came out in one piece, which with Riccardo as a track coach is already a win.
The Balance Sheet
She finishes without any crashes, without any damage, bike in perfect shape - almost a unique achievement in this group.
Someone tried to calculate the total kilometres ridden. They opened Maps and closed it again. They never brought it up again.
AND WE STILL WONDER HOW
